About Us

Enlightened Kumud work is concentrated in the fields of Women’s health, Children Education, Livelihood, environment and community development which we believe are the areas of greatest need and deserve to be the focus point of our attention. Enlightened Kumud Jeevan Jyoti is working at the grass root level, believe that these are inter-related fields and together the only way to make a sustainable and impactful difference in the beneficiary population.

We work for the upliftment of the poor by helping them achieve socio-economic independence, self-sustainability and health. We do everything from providing educational and health services to the needy, poor, street children and empowering women. We help those in need with full respect, love and commitment with the aim to empower them and helping to move people from poverty to prosperity.

We believe the best way is by equipping the needy with health, education and employable skills so they attain socio-economic independence and become responsible citizens of society.

We are committed to work for the following areas for individual, community and groups in rural and urban slum areas.

  1. To work for women’s basic health and hygiene improvement.
  2. To spread awareness through various health camps in urban slum areas and rural areas with collaboration with doctors and hospitals.
  3. To ensure primary education for all the children.
  4. To spread awareness about environment protection.

Women’s Health: Campaign 1, Campaign 2, Campaign 3

Health and hygiene of women and children are at the centre of our work. We constantly drive programs to facilitate health check-up camps  and workshops on affordable nutritional diet.

Campaign 1-Meri Pehli Jarurat:

In India, women often compromise on health for their dignity. Menstruation is a taboo, as bleeding women or girls are mostly considered as impure and dirty in India. Due to lack of awareness and poverty, thousands of menstruating women or girls don’t use sanitary napkins in India. Instead, they use rags. Thus, incidents of Reproductive Tract Infection (RTI) and Urinary Tract Infections(UTI) are very common among these women. In rural and slum areas teenagers are forced to skip their schools at the time of menstruation.

Spreading awareness is the key. We at Enlightened Kumud Jeevan Jyoti  are conducting surveys and working to educate them to break the barriers and take care of the health, hygiene and comfort. We are working for them to have a dignified menstrual experience. We are educating them to keep their napkins clean and free of harmful bacteria.

In slums, many times we have been told that our women have been using cloth for years and you are spoiling them by supplying them with these pads. They don’t understand the ill effects of using cloth and so we need to educate them about menstrual hygiene. Movie such as “Padman” which was successful film focussed on women’s hygiene and health made a difference to break the taboo around the usage of sanitary pads.

Campaign 2-Healthy women healthy family: “Swasth aurat swasth parivar”

Woman is taking care of the entire family. If she is healthy only then she is able to take care of others around her.  In slum or rural areas women generally ignore their health. So here Enlightened Kumud Jeevan Jyoti  plays important role to educate them that how their good health is important for their family. We are  conducting regular check-up camps to assist in early detection of disease and help to maintain overall good health.

Enlightened Kumud Jeevan Jyoti  is arranging awareness Camps for Breast and Cervical test, awareness camps for HIV, awareness camps for promoting healthy living & nutrition.

Campaign 3: Hygiene, using toilets:

Rural population lives in households that lack toilets. This absence of proper sanitation presents public health challenges and affects Indian women’s health and dignity. Most of these women either have no access to toilets or are faced with unclean facilities. Moreover, they usually wait until night time before using public toilets or fields, which exposes them to various forms of physical attacks. Even in Urban slum areas they used to go to the public toilets which are generally not clean causing various infections which are generally ignored by them leads to the critical problems.

Children’s Primary Education:

Enlightened Kumud Jeevan Jyoti’s  aim is to ensure the primary education for all children.

Poor and illiterate parents are not convinced that education is a good investment of time for their children especially girls. Going to school is not an obvious component of life in the rural or slum communities.

We are working in the deprived section of the society to convince and counsel the parents, how education for their children can change their lives and even lives of their future generation as well. Enlightened Kumud Jeevan Jyoti is ensuring that no child should miss the school because of lack of finance or some other problem and helping parents through the admission process guidelines.

We are exploring and helping children to go to school and realize their dreams. We believe that every child is extraordinary and can reach to the heights if provided with the right opportunities.

Enlightened Kumud Jeevan Jyoti  is committed to ensure that all children, irrespective of their origin, are able to go to school and learn. We are making Continuous efforts to enable them to secure a life of dignity for themselves, their families and the community at large.

Environment Awareness:

Enlightened Kumud Jeevan Jyoti  is aiming towards the betterment of the environment, focuses on greener future, sanitation, waste management and cleanliness. Enlightened Kumud Jeevan Jyoti  is working to provide awareness to the people about environment issues. We are having tree plantation drive and even we are motivating people to gift plants to others on various occasions like birthdays etc.

Urban Slum and Rural Livelihood:

We strongly believe that working with the women will help improve the wellbeing of the entire family so we aspire to make women from slums financially independent by building on their capacity to earn livelihood for their family.
